West Vancouver Staged Home - Before & After Photos
Here is a lovely home we recently staged in West Vancouver. The home
is over 4,000 square feet, and has a beautiful view, overlooking the
Georgia Straight. We used the homeowner's existing furnishings, and brought in accessories and artwork.
BEFORE - The back of the sofa seemed a little unfriendly, and the T.V. in the living room was distracting.
AFTER - We rearranged the furniture to feature the fireplace as the focal point.
BEFORE - The dining room needed simplifying, and the dated stenciled walls need to be repainted.
AFTER - The dining room was simplified and the red accent colour brought in through artwork and a runner.
BEFORE - This homeowner loves to cook! However, when selling, it's
important to clear off as much of the counter space as possible, in
order for the kitchen to look as spacious and orderly as possible.
AFTER - The counters were cleared off, leaving the most used
appliances on the countertops, as the homeowners were living in the
property for sale. The kitchen cupboards were also painted to give a
more up-to-date look.
BEFORE - The fireplace in the kitchen seemed a bit busy with the black and white framed photographs.
AFTER - The coffee table was removed, to showcase the fireplace, and
bolder, simpler artwork was hung. The block painted wall also helps
define the fireplace.
BEFORE - The Master Bedroom seemed to lack that Wow factor.
AFTER - Removing the heavy tapestry, and adding new bedding, helped create a beautiful focal point in this Master Bedroom.

Really nice job, Sally - It is great to see how you worked with what the homeowner already had... Cheers, Wendy Betts - South Delta / South Surrey
Great before and after shots Sally....................amazing how "simplifying" everything gives the home an entirely fresh, clean look..........well done. Love the touches of red in the living room.
Sally: I love it when you give us a look at your work. My grandparents lived on Lawson in West Van and this was their view as well. What that is now is a million dollar view with a home that will encourage the Buyers to pay it. Great job!!!!
That bedroom transformation was incredible. Actually, all of it was! The kitchen was a huge improvement! The sligt "bend" in the line of the black and white photo's above the fireplace would have bugged me like crazy, wonder how long they hung like that! LOL
Thanks for sharing...great work!
Julie
Wendy - Thanks so much! It was actually nice to work with the homeowner's furnishings. Sourcing furniture for a vacant 4,000 square foot home would have been a bit of a challenge!
Roger - All the "stuff" in the home was distracting from the main feature, the view. By simplifying, your eye went quickly to the outdoors. I knew you'd like the red!
Valerie - I went to elementary school in West Van, at Pauline Johnson Elementary, right near Lawson! We lived at 20th St and Kings. This home is a little higher up, on Roseberry, but a very similar view. What a small world!
Julie - Ha! That's so funny. The crooked hanging b&w photos also drove me crazy. I was just itching to take those down. The scenes on the photos were actually really nice, all taken in London, England, but unfortunately, the whole effect was just too busy, competing with the pattern of the brick in the fireplace.
Wowza!! GREAT examples of a "stunning transformation"! The Master Bedroom before looked like someone had just gotten up from a long winters nap....AFTER....again Stunning!
And....you have exquisite taste (LOL)....I have those same prints in the Master and the throw on the chaise!!
Did you have the area behind the bed painted a darker shade??
Sally, first of all I suggest. Great transformation. Before that home had only view to offer. Now it's a welcoming elegant place with the view. I like that dark paint on the wall with two art pieces in the bedroom- great alternative to the head board and also make those ceiling look higher. My grandma had the rug above her bed too LOL
Ok, what's the back story on the three sections of wall painted brown? I love it...and here is my theory: it started with the fireplace with all the black and white pictures. So much patching that needed to be done and then the wall had to be painted. You used the accent color to avoid having to paint the whole wall or room. Then you did the other two places to create a complimentary feel.
Sally - another truly amazing transformation - I bow to you! I love how you highlighted the kitchen fireplace by painted it and the art over the mantel - gorgeous! You turned the master bedroom into a buyer's dream - Again love how you painted the wall above the bed, added beautiful art and made it a spectacular focal point! Brilliant!
This is why you went home with an award!! Stunning work Sally!!!!
Wow Sally! That house came to life with your transformation ... Before, it looked "tired" and now it says "Make an Offer -- you'll love living here!" I love how the art you used added color and pizazz to the spaces. Great job!
Looks SO much better, Sally!
Great work Sally! Like Sharon, I love the effect of the block painted walls over the fireplace and in the bedroom. Recently did that too and I love how "just paint" added more emphasis. It was great seeing you last week for both events!
Looks terrific Sally! I love the color blocking in the master. The art in the dining room just lifts the whole space.
You know me too well my friend!
Sally the bedroom transformation is my favorite. To be polite, I'll just say that I've never been a fan of rugs as headboards. (mouth is now "zipped").
I especially love the accent area painted above the bed. Great idea and so simple!
Kathy - Great minds think alike! What wonderful taste you have in art! Ok, I guess I should have mentioned this in my post, but the home owners actually hired a decorator after I had been there, to give them advice on paint colours. The whole house had been faux painted, and my advice was to repaint. I wish they had asked me what paint colours I would have suggested, but I guess they felt we were two different services.
Anna - The block painting wasn't my idea, and I'm not sure I thought it was necessary. I could have achieved the same effect with a headboard, but when I arrived to stage, it was a fait accompli! At first, I thought it was a waste of the home owners money, but all the comments here have changed my mind. Others seem to find great value. You are such a sweetie to "suggest" - thank you!
Sharon - The home owners had the block painting done by a decorator, and then re-hung all those little black and white photos! When I came back for a second viewing before staging (I gave the proposal 1 year earlier), the brown colour kind of limited what I would hang over the kitchen fireplace. In the end it worked out, though.
Kristine - I bow and scrape and crawl on my knees to you, too! You know, I think you should go for Rookie Stager of the Year next year! As mentioned earlier, I can't take credit for the block painting, but I can take credit for the rest of it! Thanks so much!
Cathy Lee - You're just the best! Next year I'm coming dancing with you!
Maureen - You always put into words what I'm trying to convey! Thanks so much. This home had such potential, and was a pleasure to stage. Did I mention that I staged it the day before I flew down to Vegas?!!!
Beth - I couldn't agree more!
Ginger - Paint is truly a stager's best friend! It was so great seeing you, too! Wasn't Bodine amazing?
Janice - The home owner was a little upset that I moved his horribly expensive artwork from the dining room, but blue wasn't working in the space. It was replaced by the red tulip painting, carrying the red colour throughout. He'll thank me when the house sells!
Roger - I really do!
David - I hear you! Nuff said!
Shar - If only it had been my idea, but thanks anyway! Ha ha!
Hi Sally....Love your work, Great photos capturing the changes...Love ya
Fred - Thanks so much. Had to put my roller skates on for this one, but it was worth it. Love ya back!
HUGE improvement Sally! It all looks good, but I especially like the dining room transformation. Love that you used color on the walls!
Oh my... what a difference, Sally. Great job.
Congratulations. Your home staging is being featured in the group Staging Before and After Pictures.
Kathy
Hi Sally - Really wonderful work! I especially like the transformed kitchen. The color blocking is an interesting idea as well - really highlights the focal point of the room. Even though it wasn't your idea, you really made it work! Well done.
Hi Sally, congratualations on winning an award! Your work is always outstanding. Love the colour blocking. I started using paint as an inexpensive way to bring focus to a feature as well. Works like a charm. Truly night and day transformations in each room.
Tessa - Thanks! Adding the red accents throughout really brought the home alive.
Kathy - Thanks so much, and always an honour to be featured!
Judy - The original plan was to place red artwork above the fireplace in the kitchen, but when I saw the chocolate brown block painting, I changed tactics, and added the large white flower artwork instead. It really makes a strong impact.
Michelle - Thanks so much Michelle, just wish you were there, but hopefully we'll see you next year. We worked hard on this home - the square footage called for myself plus 2 other stagers, and it was a long day, but we got it done!
Sally, that may be the nicest compliment I've ever received! Thanks for always supporting and building me up - as newbie it always boosts my moral! Looking forward to seeing more of your amazing work!
Kristine - You're a natural talent. Just keep building up that portfolio and go for it!
Great transformation! Pecrfect example of how powerful Occupied Home Staging can be for Home Seller's! Well done Girlfirend! :)
Sally - Whoo Hoo . . . that's why you cleaned up in the award category in Vegas!! CONGRATULATIONS my friend! Fantastic job above on a home that is going to sell right quick!
Janice - I'm usually the go-to stager for vacant homes, so it was a nice change to tackle an occupied property. Thanks so much!
Susan - Whoooo Hoooo is right!!!! Vegas was a blast! Fingers crossed that the above home does sell quickly!
Sally- I've come late to the dance but all I can say is wow! Just alone the B&A's showed how with the right professional and the owners own furnishings (well most of their own) a home can be transformed into a warm cozy home. And to ditto what everyone else said I LOVED using the block painting.
