We are all very excited about the torch coming to Summerland and what it stands for!!

The Olympic torch will make its way through the community on Monday afternoon as part of the flame’s journey to the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver and Whistler.
Recreation director MacDonald said the torch relay will be a unique opportunity for spectators and participants.
“This is a once in a lifetime thing for the municipality,” he said.
He added that this year’s games will hold a special significance in Summerland.
“Our community is a small community with two members on the Olympic team,” he said.
Justin Kripps is expected to compete in bobsleigh while Kristi Richards, who took part in the 2006 Winter Olympics, is expected to compete in freestyle skiing.
MacDonald said the torch will arrive at the corner of Highway 97 and Prairie Valley Road at 2:53 p.m.
Eight torch bearers will carry the torch through the community.
The route will take them up Prairie Valley Road, right onto Rosedale Avenue, left onto Main Street, right onto Victoria Road North and right onto Jubilee Road West.
The torch will stop for one to three minutes at the corner of Kelly Avenue and Jubilee Road West.
It will then continue to Rosedale Avenue and left to Highway 97.
It will then be driven to Peachland at 3:15 p.m.
Each torch bearer will carry the torch for 300 metres.
All schools will participate with students along the route holding banners and chanting.
Summerlanders are encouraged to wear red and white when the torch relay passes through.
The runners in Summerland include Amy Buzikievich of Summerland, Shane Vogelesang of Calgary and Mike Haidar of Kelowna.
Other Summerlanders will carry the torch in other communities. Laura Ingram will run in Kelowna, Diane Pew will run in Grand Forks, Carl Richard will run in Vernon and Renee (Hannas) Tremmel, Katie Semenoff and Rick Papineau will all run in Penticton.
